SIGNPOSTING IN THE VALAIS

Vertical signposting: yellow panels that give information on the places, the destinations and the hiking time (stops are not accounted for).  

Horizontal signposting: yellow arrows that clearly indicate the route. Yellow diamond shapes or signs of white-red-white/white-blue-white paint, stating the hiking or mountain/alpine routes.

CATEGORIES OF HIKING TRAILS
– hiking trails that do not present particular difficulties: yellow varnish directional panels, diamond shapes and arrows.

– mountain hiking trails: they often go through a rugged, exposed terrain and are marked by yellow panels with a white-red-white tip, with strokes of white-red-white paint.

– alpine hiking trails that may go via snow fields, glaciers, scree slopes or through rocks with some scrambling: blue indicators  with a white-blue-white tip, with strokes of white-blue-white paint

Vertical signposting:  yellow signs that mark the destination, height, difficulty and the hiking time (stops are not accounted for).

Most of the paths are graded E = hiking (“E” stands for “escursionistico”)

Any path with alpine difficulty is marked EE = Expert hikers – (Escursionisti Esperti)

Horizontal signposting: yellow arrows and a diamond shapes with the TDC writing.
